In this year, I decided to use basically the same receiver as in last years contest.
Anyway, there were some noteworthy improvements compared to the
receiver last year.
First, I added a second transformer (Bogen T-725) to allow for a better
matching to a broad range of headphone impedances. Second, I enhanced the
radio by another band tuning from about 130 kHz to 300 kHz and thus covering the
longwave band from 148.5 kHz to 283.5 kHz in Europe. As third, I modified
some of the coil windings and switched to 460x0.02mm litz wire in case of the upper
frequency mediumwave subband. The largest gain in sensitivity I got was done by
using a pair of true soundpowered headphones with USIC UA 1611 elements.
