But I use theremin tuning with my regenerative mini-tube/loop antenna rig:

 .
It comes in handy: Just run slighly over oscillation, then move hand to loop to tune, and get a 'superreg' sensitivity at exactly the right frequency.

Haha, reminds me of when I was a kid, pre-cable TV.

Son. Please adjust the antenna.

Move your arm to the left. Right. Left again. OK, good, go sit down.

Wait 2 minutes.

Son. Please adust the antenna again.

Etc.

As I got older, I experimented (unsuccessfully) with various aluminum foil "additions" to the antenna in order to preclude this process.

Signal quality with cable TV, many years later, was outstanding.

Makes me wonder anyway: In another thread they discuss hula-hoop loop antenna's. If I spin those fast enough while listening, could it act as a BFO?
( Just need to worry about how to keep the wires untangled, but at least keeps me from getting fat while listening). Makes it really a 'one active device'! Somewhat like this lady:

Looks like she is also using hand capacity.

If you glued a magnet to the edge of the hoop and gyrated just right, you could spin the magnet through a coil of wire and generate electricity to power the radio. :?
