A while back I saw an experimental circuit that was connected to a long wire and a good ground and provided a about 1-1.5 volts at low current - trouble is I cant remember where. I looked a my usual web sites and I can't locate it. My intention is to use it to charge a supercap to provide power for a one active device radio OR maybe a super efficient amp for headphones. Can anyone help?

I've seen a circuit like you are describing using a supercap. I believe it was under discussion on the Rap-n-tap forum...would have been 2-3 years ago. Maybe the search feature could find it or one of the barflies there will remember it.

Try this one:

There are others that probably don't perform as well...
