is it just me, or are the conditions this evening considerably better than they have been of late??--all the 50KW stations are booming into central texas this evening--even WWL, whom i usually hear, but seldom with any real volume, is scorching my ears underneath the cans--

unfortunately i didn't have the time to devote to listening for the contest---just a couple quick scans--

The bands have been so bad for so long, that any slight improvement, like we have been seeing lately really makes them seem alive. We got pretty much used to the mundane band conditions over the past couple of years. All I can say is that it is about time they improve!

TB,

Absolutely!! Last night I heard two stations I had never heard before. I was also able to comfortably listen to a music station that previously was just a spot on the dial where I knew something existed but could just barely tell it was music. FWIW: I'm in Tacoma.

Last night I was working the middle of the band. I picked up CBW
Winnipeg the way I usually do, but this time it was so loud I thought
I had missed CBW and picked up a local...until the Randy Bachmann
show came on and confirmed CBW Winnipeg. Stayed nice and strong
too. The signal was actually louder than the two 50kw stations with
towers only 16km from here...and CBW is 1400km from here!

thanks guys

this is wonderful; in two ways--

A. any improvement in conditions is good news
B. your confirmation of my suspicion means that i'm not losing my grip<grin>

i had the same experiences you talked about--very loud distant station--thinking that i had WBAP, 820kc and finding it was actually WCCO, 830kc was surprising, to say the least--i usually hear WCCO if i strain, but last night i almost had to detune to keep eardrums intact--as Alice said; "curiouser and curiouser"--
i took a short listen a few minutes ago--didn't sound all that promising, but it was early--

back to the cans
