I would like to build a retro 1956 M/I transistor radio. plans are from Vintage Projects website/Science& tech/Radio/Transistor radio. The plans call for a 2n107 transistor, what would be a reasonable substitute for this ? also, it calls for a 220,000 ohm resistor.I this real critical, as a value? I have a loopstick and old variable cap coming from Mike Peebles, so ill be set there. I do have a extra 2sb172 that I found cheap, would this be a good choice. Prices on E-Bay for 2n107 or Ck 722 are out of this world im on a budget so......Im just learning so I thought this would be a simple set to play with What kind of voltage and resistance would the 2sb172 like to see in the circuit...Thank You !!!! Perry

Perry,

I'm sending your other stuff tomorrow. I have some 2N107's if you want it to be Genuine. $14.95

Otherwise, this will work fine, and look somewhat original:

78-050, 2N2048Transistor, Germanium, TO-5, RF/IF
& Audio$ 4.75

Mike

Perry,

Top hat, pinched, in original container and all.

Packed with other stuff, and ready to go, today.

The resistor value is not real critical.

BUT be carefull and dont use too low of a resistance value! You wouldnt want to burn up a vintage transistor.

You could use a 1 or 2 Meg pot even!

luck

Maybe not a good idea. Setting the pot close to zero could kill both transistor and pot!

The 220K is just about right. . .I'd stick with it.
