Dave,

Firstly thanks for replying.

How much do I need is the next question (both for now and in the future). I am a keen electronics enthusiast and two sons aged 8 & 10 who I'm going to make a MK484 based radio for (following one of the threads on your board).

I may well need more in future.

Right now I need enough to make two aerials with 72 turns on a 1/2 rod.

Let's say I wanted 100ft for now what would this cost including shipping please?

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

While children are a wonder and a blessing, I don't know if they require 165/46 Litz wire. That's for DAD's radios

If you're making MW receivers for the leaders of tomorrow, you can either pilfer the whole antenna (coil + ferrite bar) out of trashed radios, or look at the abundance of crystal-radio plans, and copy their bigger MW coils using enameled wire and a cardboard tube. I'm having good success making shortwave coils using the wire from scavenged CAT5 or CAT6 LAN wiring cutoffs and 35mm film canisters.

BTW, I still vividly remember assembling a crystal radio from a kit with my Dad, watching him put up a long-wire antenna for it, and the many nights I had it under the covers secretly listening. An experience not to be missed, and I envy you the memories you're about to create with your kids.

Hi Richard,

there is a litz reseller in UK, however there is no 165/46 wire available but 300/0.04: http://wires.co.uk/acatalog/litzwire.html.
500g should be more than enough for some coils...
