I'm new to the whole tube radio thing and need to know how to adapt a Crystall earphone for use on a one tube radio. I'm building the radio based on Doerle Twinplex schematic that I found online. Please assume that I know absolutly nothing. What are my other options. Nice radio site Dave S, you inspired about 6 weeks ago to start collecting parts.

Welcome to the group!

A crystal earphone can be made to work with a Doerle radio. You will need to substitute a resistor in place of the magnetic headset that was originally intended. Start with a 10k resistor from B+ to the plate of the tube.

Next, connect a 0.1uf capacitor from the plate to one side of your crystal earphone. The other end of your crystal earphone goes to the circuit ground.

Is your set an "original" Doerle built with a #19 tube?

It does use the 19 tube but it will be scratch built. Magnetic earphones? Help me understand these.

Actually this will be my first home-made radio. I got the parts list and shematic out of a book.
