Hello friends,

I purchased the hosting services of ixwebhosting.com and have moved
my website over to it. The domain still points to my original site, so there
is nothing new there.

I'm having an e-mail problem (with my other domain name now hosted
there) which has to be resolved before I move the name.

There are a lot of nice features that I know I will enjoy with this company.
I am also hoping for better uptime of my website and this board. Not to
mention better speed here.

Now for the bad news. :(

The phpBB software on the new host is newer than what is on this one.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to import the data from this board
to the new one!

What this means is all the messages here will go away. Also everyone
will have once again register on the board. Since I don't have a bot
problem anymore, you will be able to approve your own account.

My nephew has been helping me with all this as he has his own database
run software (pages) running at schmarder.com. After discussing it with
him, he doesn't think the databases are compatible.

I expect to switch over in a couple of days, so if you see pictures and
text here from past posts, please copy it to your hard drive. Also take
care of any private messages you want to save by cutting and pasting
into your word processor. The pictures that I had hosted are
already copied to the next server, but since the posts won't be
available, it doesn't matter too much. But they are there.

I'm sorry this is not going so well, but I feel that the promise of faster
and more reliable access to this board is worth the pain.

The new board will be laid out a little differently. When I originally set up
this board, I made some small mistakes. This gives me another chance
and will make it easier to expand to take care of our needs.

So in the next few days, the change over will occur.

Dave

Hi again friends,
I'm still working on the changeover. In doing more research, I think it is
now possible to move the database over to the newer board. I'm waiting
for a couple more processes to occur then I can continue.

Thanks for your understanding.

Dave

I had another bright idea!
It was inspired by the names suggested on the other thread for a new
website for schmarder.com. After a lot of thinking (well not really that
much thinking), I decided to give the RadioBoard forum a new URL and
keep my hobby radio site as schmarder.com.

At least for now. If I change the radios site, I will have to write over
200 more web pages to redirect visitors to the new place. Google is
likely to get confused, and everyone that so kindly put a link to my
pages will have to change the links.

But not that many link to The RadioBoard. I only have to write one
page to redirect. It is my desire to have this RadioBoard everyone's
and not just a schmarder.com ego trip.

Therefore the new URL for the RadioBoard will be: (drum roll, ta-da)

http://theradioboard.com

(Just plain radioboard.com was taken, so it is The RadioBoard, only
all shoved together with a dot com on the end.

I am still working on the database transfer thing. So far, no luck,
but they say it can be done. (I'm willing to let any experts on this
give it a try, or tell me where I''m going wrong.)

I got my e-mail problem fixed on my other domain hosted there.
I think my nephew is ready to move on his portion of the
schmarder.com empire.

and right now, I don't have any idea what to do next! So I am
sitting here and typing until I figure it out.

cu

Hello Dave,

thank you for moving the board! It is now VERY fast over here in Germany - a wonderful new feeling of "radioboarding" :) To be on the safe side, I had downloaded all threads of "Litze und Lötkolben". Now, I am happy that all works smoothly without uploading the old postings manually. Very good!

BTW, I am sure that providing us with a fast and reliable board is not free of charge for you. May I suggest to add a discreet little PayPal donate button to the board for those regulars who would like to to sponsor your expenses?

Hi Guys,
It sure got exciting for a while. The main thing I did was to be careful so
if I did something wrong, I could recover. I can tell you that I learned a
lot about these boards and the MySQL datebases.

I had little things go wrong. For instance, the board kept reverting back
to the old place after doing an operation. That is because the old url
was still listed. I had to go back to the old forum and change that and
then do a database dump. Then I set the old url back to the original
value just in case I needed to get back in there again. . Then after
doing another restore, that part of the board worked.

It took me most of two days to figure this out. I want to thank the
board members for their help and understanding. It was worth the
change (hopefully) to have a better running board.

I did put up a donation bucket on my main website last week. There
have been people asking to donate via e-mail. If you want to donate,
please don't donate a lot. The out of pocket for the website hosting
(including this board) aren't really too big. It is more time than
anything. Now that I am "retired", I have time to do all this. Or you
can just buy some litz or something. :)

Anyhow, it is fun. I hope to make some improvements to the board
in the future. I also need to fix some errors that I made in setting
up the original board.

cu

Hi Dave,

there is a German idiom: "Ich habe mir einen Wolf gesucht." I did that when I was looking for that itsy-bitsy teensy-weensy donate button which I finally found in the most afar corner of your website   After all, I learned a lot about your relatives, about your RTTY experiences (intersting, I had a Siemens T100 and was qrv via Amsat Oscar 13 then!) and about your future plans with your IC-736 ;) Finally, I was at PayPal and was able to send some bucks for the board. You will find it sent by a certain "isenberg ... li" - that is me, and it is the name of one of my forefathers who impressed me strongly. He was put to death in 1226 because he had slain his uncle some months ago. This uncle was the Archbishop of Cologne, Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire and legal guardian of the young Heinrich VII. So, my ancestor didn't stand the slightest chance to avoid the execution. At least, he "lives" in an odd e-mail address ;)

As I know that you are eager to learn new German words and idioms let me explain that "Wolf" - in German.

Congratulations Dave on getting the new web host.

So far, it's looking grrrreat! (Apologies to Tony the Tiger).

I know software/OS upgrades can be a pain, and I really appreciate your hard work and the fruit of your labor is certainly showing now!

Cheers,
Jeff

Hi Fritz,

I guess I wasn't too clear of where the button was located. But you used
your logic and found it! You only had 211 pages to search. :)

That is nice that you honor your ancestors. I have done it by showing
some of them on my web page. Dave's Ancestors

I have been in the saddle, but never got saddle sores, like you told in
your post. Here is a picture of me on a horse in Arizona about 11 years ago.
But the truth is that I was only on the horse for about 5 minutes. I got
off before I fell off, or was thrown off.

A little alcohol was also involved. I had enough beer that I would get
on the horse, but not so much that I couldn't have gotten on the horse. :)

Hi Jeff,
I figured that you knew what I had gone through. The way it turned
out, one would think that I actually knew what I was doing!
